This is a special benefit viewing of the film The Betrayal (Nerakhoon) that will be held at The Flicks on June 18th at 7PM in celebration of World Refugee Day.
The epic story, filmed over the course of 23 years, follows the story of a family's journey from war-torn Laos to the mean streets of New York. Thavisouk Phrasavath narrates this deeply personal and poetic memoir of himself as a young man struggling to survive war and life as an immigrant, revealing the hidden, human face of war's "collateral damage. The film is a testament to the resilient bonds of family and an astonishing tale of survival.
The Oscar-nominated film, directed by Ellen Kuras and Thavisouk Phrasavath, has won several awards including the Cinereach Watch – Human Rights Watch, Best Documentary at the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the Spectrum Award and Audience Award at the Fresno Film Festival.
All proceeds go to support local refugee housing costs through The IRC of Boise. Tickets are $10 and can be ordered at 344-1792 or by contacting:
